She introduces him to Jake Mellows, an aging Hollywood action star whose career is fading and whose gambling problems have made him vulnerable to manipulation. Although the glamorous world of filmmaking initially distracts Martin, he soon uncovers evidence that the production company is being used as a front for large-scale money laundering operations tied to Russian organized crime. The criminal enterprise is controlled by Oleg Butraskaya, a ruthless Russian mobster who finances the movie in order to clean illegal profits. Oleg and his associates become alarmed when Martin’s investigation starts getting too close to the truth. At first, they attempt to buy Martin’s silence with bribes and promises of wealth, but he refuses to compromise his integrity.
