Plot Summary
A film about Steven Thomas, a seasoned suicide hotline operator who spends his nights talking strangers through their darkest moments. Calm, empathetic, and methodical, Steven appears to have mastered the emotional demands of his job—until he receives a call that changes everything. Late into his shift, Steven answers a call from a distressed man who claims he is planning to end his life within the hour. At first, the situation seems tragically familiar, but the conversation quickly takes a disturbing turn. The caller begins revealing deeply personal details about Steven’s life—memories, relationships, and secrets that no stranger could possibly know. As the tension rises, the caller makes an even more shocking claim: he is Steven himself. Initially dismissing it as a prank or the work of a manipulative caller, Steven tries to maintain professionalism.
However, as the caller continues to provide increasingly specific and intimate knowledge, Steven is forced to confront the terrifying possibility that something far more complex is unfolding. The call becomes a psychological duel, with Steven racing against time to keep the caller alive while also trying to understand how such a scenario could exist. As the clock ticks down, the film interweaves Steven’s present with fragmented glimpses of his past—childhood trauma, strained family relationships, and buried guilt. These memories begin to blur with reality, creating a sense that Steven’s mind itself may be unraveling.
The hotline room, once a place of control, becomes claustrophobic as he realizes he may be confronting not just a caller, but a version of himself shaped by regret and unresolved pain. Steven’s desperation intensifies as he tries to locate the caller physically, but every lead only deepens the mystery. The boundaries between past and present, reality and illusion, begin to collapse. It becomes increasingly unclear whether the caller is a real person, a manifestation of Steven’s psyche, or something even more inexplicable tied to his own history.
