Plot Summary

After being released from juvenile detention, Maria Bennett returns to her roots in the Bronx with nothing but a talent for street dance and a volatile relationship with her ex-boyfriend, Luis, the charismatic leader of the elite 718 dance crew. Attempting to stay on the right path, Maria finds herself working at a local recreation center. It is there that she meets Brandon, a disciplined dancer who recruits her to help him train a group of talented but unrefined misfits known as the HDs. Initially, Maria is reluctant to step back into the competitive world that previously led her into trouble. However, the HDs lack the technical skill and “street” edge required to compete in the “Battle Zone,” a high-stakes televised dance competition.

As she begins choreographing for the group, Maria finds a sense of purpose she hasn’t felt before. She pushes the HDs through rigorous rehearsals, blending her raw street style with Brandon’s more structured approach.
