Plot Summary

Ben Finnegan is a charming but reckless deep-sea treasure hunter whose life is a series of narrow escapes and sunken dreams. For years, he has been obsessed with the Aurelia, a legendary Spanish galleon lost during the 1715 Treasure Fleet disaster. This ship carried the “Queen’s Dowry,” a fortune in gold and jewels that has eluded explorers for centuries. Finn’s luck seemingly turns when he recovers a unique fragment of a dinner plate—an authentic piece of the Dowry—from the ocean floor. However, Finn is deep in debt to Bigg Bunny, a ruthless local kingpin. When Finn appeals to him for funding, the meeting goes south; Bigg, realizing the fragment’s immense value, decides to seize the treasure for himself and leaves Finn for dead.

Undeterred and penniless, Finn sets his sights on a more sophisticated benefactor: multi-millionaire Nigel Honeycutt. Nigel’s massive yacht is currently home to Finn’s ex-wife, Tess, who is working as a steward to pay off her own debts and move on from Finn’s chaotic lifestyle. Finn manages to crash their world—literally—by dramatically rescuing a flyaway hat belonging to Nigel’s socialite daughter, Gemma. Once aboard, Finn uses his infectious enthusiasm to pitch the hunt for the Aurelia. Despite Tess’s skepticism, Nigel and Gemma are captivated by the romance of the lost fleet and agree to fund the expedition.

Following a trail of historical breadcrumbs, Finn and Tess rediscover their old chemistry. Their search leads them to a remote, ancient church where they uncover a hidden diary detailing the treasure’s exact coordinates. The thrill of the discovery leads to a night of celebration and passionate reconciliation. The victory is short-lived. Bigg Bunny has been shadowing them and ambushes the group, taking Tess hostage. Finn enlists the help of his grizzled former mentor, Moe Fitch, for a high-stakes rescue. The climax unfolds in a frantic chase where Gemma uses her jet ski to propel Finn toward Bigg’s departing seaplane.
