Alcatraz

Plot Summary

In 1963, a group of guards and prisoners disappeared from Alcatraz, the infamous island prison, leaving behind only unanswered questions and records that make no sense. More than forty years later, these same people start appearing again in present‑day San Francisco with no explanation for where they have been or why they look exactly as they did decades earlier. They have no memory of what happened to them during the lost years, but they carry with them the habits, instincts, personalities, and dangerous tendencies that defined them when they vanished. Their return triggers confusion, fear, and urgent efforts by government officials and law enforcement to protect the public and uncover what connects these individuals.

A specialized group comprised of federal agents, medical experts, historians, and analysts works to identify each returning person and understand what they are capable of. Records from the 1960s are examined for clues about behavior, criminal history, psychological profiles, and personal relationships. The team studies old files, surveillance reports, mugshots, and witness statements to match reappearing names with past actions and predict what they might do now. In many cases, the people who return were involved in violent crime, espionage, or other dangerous activity before they disappeared, introducing immediate risk when they re‑enter a world that has changed dramatically. Modern technology becomes essential in tracking and monitoring these individuals.

Facial recognition systems, database cross‑referencing, DNA profiling, and digital surveillance help the group trace their movements as they emerge in cities, neighborhoods, and public spaces. Analysts compare historical handwriting, fingerprints, and behavioral patterns to current data to confirm identities and locate them quickly. Coordination with local and federal law enforcement becomes necessary whenever a reappeared person is spotted, unresponsive to authority, or engaging in harmful behavior. Social and cultural changes between the 1960s and the present add layers of complexity to interactions with returning individuals.

When child killer Kit Nelson, a terrifying kidnapper who always returns his victims home – after he’s killed them – reappears from the past, the team is in a race against time to catch the man before he kills again.

When a bank robbing criminal returns from the past and things go wrong in the present, Rebecca has to break him out of the hostage-filled bank before people can find out who he is.

Guy Hastings, an Alcatraz guard, reappears. Although a good man, Hastings is being asked to do bad things and will come face-to-face with an old acquaintance.

When Hauser, Madsen, and Soto track former inmate Paxton Petty, a landmine bomber who has returned and is placing bombs throughout populated areas of San Francisco, methods of the past are applied to the present.

Madsen and Hauser hunt down Johnny McKee, a former Alcatraz inmate and vicious killer with a background in chemistry. It’s a race against time before McKee horrifically poisons more innocent victims.Β

Sonny Burnett, a man with a dark side, who became extremely violent while at Alcatraz reappears.

Clarence Montgomery was the only innocent man in Alcatraz, but he’s returned and is committing crimes.

Rebecca, Doc, and Hauser set out to capture musically-inclined serial killer Webb Porter, an unknown ’63 that returns more violent than ever.

Doc and Rebecca close in on a man who may be the key to revealing the secrets behind all the returning criminals. Meanwhile, Hauser makes a discovery beneath the halls of Alcatraz that brings him ever closer to the truth.

Revealing doors are opened and lives hang in the balance as Rebecca will stop at nothing in pursuit of the man who killed her partner.
