Plot Summary

In an alternate present, the world has been reshaped by the aftermath of a near-total nuclear annihilation. Sixty-five years after the collapse, humanity has survived through a combination of radiation-absorbing flora and radical genetic engineering. In this high-tech, low-life society, genetic enhancement is no longer a luxury but a requirement for social status. Those who possess “superior” DNA dominate the political and economic landscape, while those whose biology is incompatible with these upgrades are relegated to the fringes of society. Known pejoratively as “Specials,” these unenhanced individuals are treated as second-class citizens, forced to live in the shadows of a world that views them as evolutionary dead ends.

The story follows Leon, a resilient mechanic living with paraplegia, and his spirited niece, Chloe. Scraping by in the rusted industrial districts, the two survive by scavenging “Genesis Flowers”—rare plants capable of providing energy—and repurposing them for a desperate underground clientele. Their quiet life of survival is shattered during a routine trade when they are caught in the crossfire of a violent clash between government forces and a radical group known as the Anti-Genetics. Framed for a series of high-profile killings they didn’t commit, Leon and Chloe become the most wanted fugitives in a city governed by biological surveillance.

As they flee, Leon is forced to confront a hidden past involving his estranged father, a powerful senator who orchestrated the very eugenics-based laws Leon now flees. Discovering that a new legislative bill, Proposition 42, aims to militarize genetic purity and further exploit the Specials, Leon realizes he can no longer remain a bystander. Utilizing a specialized exosuit and his innate mechanical ingenuity, he leads a desperate rebellion to expose the corruption at the heart of the Genesis Institute. Every revolution has its cost, and Leon must decide how much of his own humanity he is willing to sacrifice to level a playing field that was rigged from the start.
