Plot Summary

A sweeping science fiction drama that spans continents and decades, exploring humanity’s first contact with an alien civilization and the consequences that follow. The story begins in 1960s China during the Cultural Revolution, where astrophysicist Ye Wenjie witnesses the brutal death of her father and loses faith in humanity. Recruited into a secret military project, she uses a powerful radio telescope to send a signal into deep space. The message is received by an alien civilization known as the San-Ti, who live in a chaotic three-star system where extreme and unpredictable conditions threaten their survival. Decades later, in the present day, a series of unexplained events begins to unfold across the scientific community.

Leading physicists die under mysterious circumstances, and experimental results start to defy the known laws of physics. A group of scientists—many of whom are former classmates—find themselves at the center of the mystery. Among them is a nanotech expert who begins seeing a countdown embedded in her vision, signaling something ominous and inevitable. As they investigate, the group uncovers a secret global organization that has been working in support of the San-Ti. This faction believes humanity is fundamentally flawed and welcomes the aliens as a superior force that can bring order.
